The LMP® technology (Lithium Metal Polymer)

Solid-state lithium batteries will help all remote places with their transition problems.

Solid-state lithium batteries will help all remote places with their transition problems.

Li-ion batteries are the most common on the market, but because of the harsh weather in developing countries, they aren’t always the best choice for storage (thermal runaway, risks of fire and explosion, warranty exclusions). That’s why Blue Solutions came up with the Lithium Metal Polymer technology for storing energy. Getting everyone access to energy is one of the most important problems of our time. Thanks to the lower cost of solar panels, improved battery technology (LMP), a better understanding of what people really need, and the commitment of local businesses, Blue Solutions is able to help communities in Africa that need it the most get access to energy. The company plans to bring its solution to the Middle East, South East Asia, the Asia-Pacific, and other places with harsh weather.

Positive facts about The LMP® technology (Lithium Metal Polymer)

The LMP® Battery contains no rare earth metals, Cobalt, Cadmium, Nickel nor toxic solvents
The LMP® Battery can be recycled thanks to the use of lithium in metal
Offers a payback below 5 years but guarantees a lifetime of 10 years
OPEX required for the LMP technology is of approx. 1% of the CAPEX which is significantly lower than mainstream lithium ion

About the curator

Arnaud Michel is the founder and curator of Keys for Tomorrow. In 2014, his master’s thesis on community currencies and sustainable development won the Prix Recherche at Belgium’s Prix de l’Économie Sociale; the research was later published as Ecological Economics (Elsevier, 2015). He curates this directory to the same standard, cross-checking every project against established certification bodies and directories — including B Corp, 1% for the Planet, and Solar Impulse Foundation — alongside direct research into each project’s own record.
