Plastic waste from the food retail industry is a big problem because it pollutes the land and water and makes a lot of CO2. The goal of MIWA technology is to reduce the amount of waste made by food, non-food, and liquid products that come in single-use packaging. MIWA is smart packaging that can be used more than once. It is made up of both hardware and software that work together. MIWA’s reusable packaging works with unique electronic dispensers in stores and the MIWA information system, which runs in the Cloud. This connectivity lets data flow almost in real time. RFID chips and readers are built into MIWA’s packaging and dispensing shelves. This gives everyone in the value chain a lot of chances to improve efficiency and product/consumer safety and do better than the current single-use approach. A Life Cycle Assessment study shows that MIWA can reduce the negative impact on the environment by up to 71%, the waste from using materials by up to 90%, and the carbon footprint by 46%. MIWA wants to stop up to 20,000 tons of packaging waste in the first 5 years, even though it will only reach a small part of the EU market.
