Long before “impact investing” became a buzzword, Incofin was already crafting portfolios rooted in integrity, built to last, and designed to create meaningful change. Today, with $1.1 billion in assets under management and investments spanning over 50 countries, Incofin backs ideas, people, and businesses that push the world forward.

Incofin zeroes in on three essential sectors where outcomes truly matter. These aren’t just investment opportunities—they’re pathways to empowerment and resilience. The focus areas include:

  • Inclusive Finance: Empowering small entrepreneurs to thrive

Independent by Design

What sets Incofin apart? Its independence. The firm is majority-owned by its own team, who also invest in the funds they create for clients. This structure gives Incofin the freedom to stay selective, principled, and fully aligned with the outcomes it pursues—balancing performance with purpose. It’s a model that fosters trust and long-term commitment to impact.

Corporate Governance and Commitment

Incofin Investment Management NV operates as a public limited company under Belgian law and is regulated by the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA). Since 2014, it holds an AIFM license, ensuring prudential oversight and compliance. This governance framework supports Incofin’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible investment management—making it unlike any other investment firm out there.

What Incofin actually does

Incofin is an independent, employee-owned impact investment manager born in Belgium. It manages private debt and private equity funds for institutions and individual investors, and channels that capital to businesses in emerging and frontier markets across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Asia. It invests in three areas: inclusive finance (responsible financial services for small entrepreneurs), sustainable food (agriculture and food supply chains built with smallholder farmers) and clean water (safe, affordable drinking water for low-income communities).

Each fund starts from a theory of change and eligibility criteria. Investees must reach at least a 55% score on Incofin’s proprietary ESG assessment, impact is tracked quarterly on its ECHOS 2.0 platform, and technical assistance facilities fund training and support alongside the capital. For clean water, Incofin runs the Water Access Acceleration Fund, launched at the 2023 UN Water Conference, which blends public, private and philanthropic capital to bring drinking water to vulnerable communities in Africa and Asia.

“We invest with discipline – guided by clear impact standards and genuine partnerships in emerging markets.”

Why this belongs on a sustainability directory

Incofin’s funds put long-term capital where mainstream finance rarely goes. Its water fund backs enterprises that deliver safe drinking water to low-income households, which links directly to SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). Its investments in microfinance institutions extend credit and savings to small entrepreneurs, supporting SDG 1 (No Poverty). Its food and agriculture funds finance smallholder farmers and sustainable farming practices, supporting SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). Each investment is screened against an ESG threshold and tracked against impact metrics, so the link is measured rather than assumed.
