materials made from fibers for packaging.

Yangi is a way to make dry-molded cellulose-based packaging, which is the best alternative to 3D rigid plastic packaging in terms of how well it works, how much it costs, and how bad it is for the environment. It was made after more than 10 years of research and development. With only a small amount of water, paper pulp can be turned into ready-made packaging by combining two different technologies. The first step is to separate the fibers and put them on a web. The web is then put into a press, which squeezes the fibers into the desired shape.

Positive facts about Yangi

75% lower CO2 emission than plastic
Recycleable and renewable material that fits into existing recycling systems
80% lower cycle times compared to wet formed fibre production
75% less energy consumption compared to wet formed fibre production

About the curator

Arnaud Michel is the founder and curator of Keys for Tomorrow. In 2014, his master’s thesis on community currencies and sustainable development won the Prix Recherche at Belgium’s Prix de l’Économie Sociale; the research was later published as Ecological Economics (Elsevier, 2015). He curates this directory to the same standard, cross-checking every project against established certification bodies and directories — including B Corp, 1% for the Planet, and Solar Impulse Foundation — alongside direct research into each project’s own record.
