A Personal Journey Behind Fit4Dance
Laci Chisholm’s story is at the heart of Fit4Dance. Back in 2009, she was stuck in a stressful job, feeling unhappy and unhealthy—overweight, with high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. When her doctor suggested medication, she decided to make a change. Dance, her natural stress reliever, became her motivation to reclaim her health. Finding it tough to locate a single place that combined affordable, effective, and fun dance and fitness classes with a sense of community, she created Fit4Dance. It’s a dream turned reality, fueled by passion and a desire to help others thrive.
Community Engagement and Social Impact
Fit4Dance goes beyond dance and fitness. It’s deeply rooted in community service and social responsibility. The studio regularly hosts events, workshops, and performances that celebrate Brooklyn’s rich cultural diversity. It’s a place where creativity and connection flourish, friendships are formed, and a true sense of belonging is nurtured. Beyond the studio walls, Fit4Dance organizes back-to-school drives, sanitary product collections for incarcerated women, and volunteers at local parks, senior centers, and shelters. This commitment to giving back is a core part of their mission.
Environmental and Economic Responsibility
Fit4Dance is serious about making a positive impact not just socially but environmentally and economically too. Over half of their supplies are sourced locally, supporting independent businesses and strengthening the local economy. This isn’t just business—it’s investing in neighbors and building a stronger community. As a certified B Corporation, Fit4Dance meets rigorous standards of accountability and transparency, proving that business can be a force for good. Their efforts have earned recognition, including being an Honoree in the 2015 Best for NYC Campaign in the Community category.
