What Is the Sunoptimo Project?
Sunoptimo is revolutionizing the way solar heat is supplied, focusing on large-scale thermal solar systems that are both efficient and accessible. Founded in 2011, this innovative company set out with a clear mission: to replace as much fossil fuel energy as possible with clean, renewable solar heat. Fast forward a few years, and in 2015, Sunoptimo launched the Opticube — an all-in-one solar thermal kit designed to simplify and accelerate the adoption of solar heat technology worldwide. From a small team of just three people, the company has grown to nine passionate members, all dedicated to making the planet greener by delivering unlimited solar heat to everyone.
Main Benefits of the Opticube Solution
The Opticube is not just another solar product; it’s a game-changer. Here’s why:
- Reduces total installation costs by 40% compared to traditional systems
- Produces green energy at less than €20 per MWh — that’s seriously affordable
- Assembly time? Just one day for a 100 m² system — quick and hassle-free
- All technical components come pre-assembled inside a 20-foot shipping container
- Easy to connect to existing heating systems, making upgrades seamless
- Optimized collector surface thanks to smart sizing for maximum efficiency
- High-performance solar collectors ensure greater profitability and reliability
The Challenge Behind Thermal Solar Energy
Heat is everywhere — it’s a basic need that makes up more than half of the world’s energy demand. Yet, most of this heat comes from fossil fuels, which are not only harmful to the environment but also getting more expensive by the day. The energy transition demands a serious cut in greenhouse gas emissions, and that’s where renewable energies come in. Among them, thermal solar stands out as the “noblest” energy source: it’s free, reliable, proven, and doesn’t harm forests or farmland. But despite all these perks, thermal solar only covers about 0.5% of heat demand globally. Why? Because of complexity, long installation times, high costs, and tricky building integration. That’s a big hurdle to jump.
How Opticube Tackles These Challenges
Sunoptimo’s Opticube is designed to break down those barriers. Imagine all the technical headaches of thermal solar technology packed neatly into one container — that’s the Opticube. The hydraulic system comes fully pre-assembled, so the only thing left is to set up the metal structure supporting the solar collectors. And guess what? Anyone can do it, quickly and easily. This clever design slashes installation time and costs, making solar heat accessible to more people and projects than ever before.
Installation and Design Features
The Opticube arrives on-site in a container, which a crane truck places right on the prepared foundations. The connecting pipes to the heating system are cleverly integrated through a hatch in the container, making connections straightforward. The structure itself uses aluminum rails specially designed to hold the solar collectors securely. Once the rails are in place, the thermal solar collectors are fixed onto them, and the primary circuit is connected. This streamlined process means less fuss, less time, and less cost — all while delivering top-notch solar heat performance.
Project Impact and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy — by providing cost-effective solar heat solutions
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure — through innovative all-in-one solar kits
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities — enabling greener urban heat networks
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production — reducing reliance on fossil fuels
- SDG 13: Climate Action — cutting greenhouse gas emissions by promoting renewable heat
Sunoptimo’s Global Reach and Vision
Though rooted in Brittany, France, with notable installations in Saint-Alban, Saint-Derrien, and La Martyre, Sunoptimo’s vision is global. The Opticube concept is commercialized worldwide, gaining momentum as more communities and industries recognize the value of large-scale solar thermal systems. The company’s ongoing mission is clear: to keep pushing the boundaries of solar heat technology, making it simpler, more affordable, and more widespread. The ultimate goal? A planet powered by clean, green heat — and Sunoptimo is leading the charge.
