After hopping between trading houses, he ended up running a company dabbling in ‘Specialty’ coffee. Back in 1988, before the gourmet coffee craze took off, his bosses sent him to Seattle to figure out what was brewing there. That trip? A game changer. It opened his eyes—and taste buds—to the world of quality coffee.
The Birth of the World’s First All-Organic Coffee Roaster
Jim’s curiosity about organic coffee grew quickly. Offers started coming in, but buyers for organic coffee were rare. So, in 1992, driven by a desire to create something unique, Jim launched the world’s first all-organic coffee roaster. The early 90s were a special time for him—an outdoors lover and camper, Jim was deeply moved by environmental concerns, especially the “Save the Rainforests” movement. This passion shaped his business philosophy and continues to influence Jim’s Organic Coffee today.
