What is YEESMA?
YEESMA, or the Yokeless/Yoked Electrically Excited Synchronous Machine, is a groundbreaking motor technology designed for electric vehicles (EVs). It’s all about ditching those rare-earth magnets that have long been a staple in motor design. Why? Because removing them slashes material costs and seriously cuts down environmental impact. This motor isn’t just another piece of tech—it’s a step toward a future where efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness go hand in hand. Imagine a motor that’s powerful, green, and wallet-friendly. That’s YEESMA.
Main Benefits of YEESMA
Let’s break down what makes YEESMA stand out:
- -45% Bill of Material
High potential and cost-effective. No rare-earth magnets needed—cutting costs without sacrificing performance. - -50% CO2 emissions
Greener by design. Less copper used and no rare-earth magnets means lower CO₂ emissions and a stronger commitment to sustainability. - -25% Volume
Made for mass production. Its simplified structure means faster, easier assembly—perfect for scaling up.
Upcoming Events Showcasing YEESMA
YEESMA is making waves in the industry, with some exciting events lined up. On Friday, 28 November 2025, there’s an IEEE Webinar titled “Novel Electric Machine Technology enabling Cost, Sustainability, and Compactness for eMobility Applications.” The session features experts like Philippe Farah from YEESMA Luxembourg, Gianpiero Vanzetti of Marsilli S.p.A in Italy, Stefano Nuzzo from the University of Modena and Reggio, and Shafigh Nategh, Chair of the IEEE IES Electrical Machines Technical Committee. It’s a must-attend for anyone curious about the future of electric motors.
Then, from December 2 to 3, 2025, YEESMA will be at the CTI Symposium 2025 held at the Estrel Hotel in Berlin, Germany. They’ll be showcasing their technology in the Startup Area, Booth 9, tackling some of the toughest challenges in e-mobility and dual-use applications. It’s a great chance to see innovation in action.
The Vision and People Behind YEESMA
Behind every great innovation is a passionate team—and YEESMA is no exception. Their co-founders and team members share their journey through exclusive videos, revealing the mission, the hurdles, and the exciting progress shaping their future. Philippe Siad Farah, co-founder with over 35 years in the automotive and electric motor industry, explains the driving force behind YEESMA: a vision to remove rare-earth magnets not just to cut costs, but to tackle sustainability, supply chain risks, and environmental harm head-on. It’s about turning a dream into a real, impactful solution.
Rare-Earth Free vs. Traditional Motors
Many are exploring synchronous reluctance motors to reduce rare-earth magnet use, but here’s the catch: those motors tend to be 30–40% bulkier and require inverters with higher phase currents. That means the whole package ends up bigger and not necessarily cheaper. YEESMA, as an axial flux electrically excited synchronous machine (EESM), flips that script. It’s more compact and demands lower phase current, which cuts inverter costs. Put simply: YEESMA offers a cheaper motor and a cheaper inverter. That’s how it delivers significant reductions in overall bill of material costs. Pretty neat, right?
YEESMA’s Impact on Sustainable Development Goals
- Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)
- Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9)
- Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
- Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)
Power Without Rare Earths. Progress Without Limits.
YEESMA is redefining electric mobility with motors that are high-performance, low-emission, and completely free from rare-earth dependencies. It’s not just about building a better motor—it’s about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable transportation. The journey toward a greener, more efficient future is underway, and YEESMA is leading the charge. Power without rare earths… progress without limits.
