What is Project X Global?

Project X Global is a WWF founded corporate accelerator which helps organisations adopt sustainable innovations in their supply chains. This initiative is all about encouraging entire industries to step change their sustainability performance, together… using proven methods and inspiring change at scale. Project X Global brings together like-minded corporates, policy influencers and innovative technology providers to create a unique ecosystem that aims to significantly reduce biodiversity decline and climate change impacts.

Main Benefit: Key Figures and Facts

The project offers numerous benefits, backed by impressive figures and concrete targets:

  • 10 industry value chains identified from an independent 2019 report.
  • The ultimate goal is for 10% of global industry to procure alternative sustainable solutions at scale.
  • A transformative 10-year programme aiming to radically boost sustainability performance.
  • Commitment to donate up to 25% of distributable profits to charitable causes.
  • A pledge towards reaching net zero emissions by 2030.

Vision and Mission Unpacked

At the heart of Project X Global lies a simple yet powerful vision: to transform the way entire industries procure sustainable innovations at scale. The mission is equally ambitious – to radically transform the sustainability performance of 10 industry value chains that are most responsible for biodiversity decline and climate change impacts in the next decade. This approach is designed with a strong sense of accountability and urgency, setting clear targets such as shifting $1.3tn to sustainable procurement by 2030, which is both exciting and challenging. There is an underlying tone of determination as the project positions itself to drive tangible industry change.

Sustainable Path Towards Perfection

Project X Global is built on solid environmental promises that resonate with current global priorities. With the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2030, the initiative is determined to lead by example. Its values emphasize the careful balance of people, planet, and profit. In August 2020, this commitment was concretely demonstrated when the organisation became a fully certified B-Corp. This certification is not just a badge of honour – it signifies a deep dedication to balancing purpose and profit. The project’s values are interwoven into every level of the programme, reinforcing that sustainability is not an afterthought but a core element of modern business strategy… every decision echoes this commitment.

Strategy and Innovative Roadmap

Guided by previous experiences in delivering innovative global programmes and spearheading new ventures, Project X Global has laid out a clear strategic roadmap. The programme is structured around securing and delivering two pilot programmes – FEED-X and GAVI-X – which serve as templates for wider industry adoption. In order to support these initiatives, the project is actively building a strategic partnership community that will help define the 10 highest impact industry value chains for the 2020-2030 programme. Moreover, there is a determined focus on reaching self-sustaining profitability and building a robust investment community, all while driving transformative change in sustainable supply chains.

Defining the Blueprint for Sustainable Industries

A pivotal element of Project X Global’s approach centers on the 10 in 10 concept. In 2019, an independent report was conducted in collaboration with WWF to identify the 10 industry value chains most responsible for biodiversity decline and climate change impacts. This report not only identified these key sectors but also honed in on the highest impact intervention points, proving that change is not only possible but within reach. The report profiles leading examples of corporates that have already embraced game-changing technologies and innovative solutions to step change how industries operate. It sets the stage for industry leaders to harness these solutions, making sustainability a shared objective that can be achieved one step at a time.

Governance and Peer Reviewed Excellence

Good project governance is a cornerstone of the Project X Global programme. It employs a series of robust structures to ensure effective delivery and technical excellence. The Strategic Partnerships Board is tasked with providing guidance and technical support on every facet of the programme, forming a collaborative network of experts and stakeholders. Alongside this, the WWF Steering Committee plays a similar role, ensuring that the strategic direction remains closely aligned with global environmental priorities. Additionally, the project incorporates comprehensive multi-stakeholder peer review processes to maintain the highest standards of research and execution. These governance frameworks help keep the project on track, enabling continuous improvement and assuring that every initiative undertaken resonates with its core values.
