What the Project Is
Microsol is a social business established over a decade ago with the purpose of creating strong links between communities around the globe and helping them become more sustainable while facing the challenges of climate change. Founded in 2008, Microsol provides clean energy solutions to rural communities in central and Latin America. The idea behind the project was simple yet powerful: improve the quality of life for families through clean cooking technology that allows them to continue enjoying their traditional food in a healthy and sustainable way. This purpose has guided Microsol’s expansion across various programs, all focused on fighting climate change and offering communities a sustainable alternative to traditional cooking methods.
Main Benefits of Clean Energy Solutions
The use of clean, improved cookstoves has led to distinctive benefits for communities, and several key figures help to showcase the measurable impact:
- Benefited people to date: 0 million
- Tons of greenhouse gases avoided: 0 million
- Trees saved to date: 0 million
These figures represent more than just numbers—they illustrate a commitment to improving lives while reducing environmental impact. This engagement translates into tangible community benefits and an overall positive transformation in the fight against climate change…
Programs and Initiatives in Action
Microsol has implemented several highlighted programs that harness clean cooking technology in diverse parts of Latin America. In Peru, the QORI Q’ONCHA initiative provides families with improved cookstoves to enhance their quality of life and deliver tangible climate benefits. In neighboring Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, the UTSIL NAJ program is contributing to reduced pollution and fighting deforestation. There is also the ITMO program, which focuses on Mitigation Transferred Internationally, offering novel ways to bring carbon reduction practices to a broader scale. Additionally, Tuki Wasi stands out as the first improved cooking program in Peru executed under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Each of these initiatives is tailored to the specific context of the communities, ensuring the interventions are both sustainable and replicable.
Join and Contribute to the Cause
Organizations and individuals who share a deep concern for the environment are invited to join Microsol’s efforts. The project promotes collaboration and community involvement as essential components to facing climate change challenges head-on. Opportunities abound to provide consulting support, contribute financially, or even support a community project that urgently needs help. This open call encourages participation because everyone, from local groups to international organizations, has a role in reducing the global footprint. The approach is simple—teams come together, identify local needs, and create situations where sustainability becomes achievable through collaborative efforts…
About Microsol and Its Approach
Microsol’s work is firmly rooted in understanding the needs, ideas, and perceptions of rural communities. The project’s approach is built on four main steps: design, innovate, replicate, and monitor. Initially, there is a deep understanding of each community’s context, followed by the design and testing of innovative solutions that are validated in the field. Once proven successful, these solutions can be replicated to reach more communities. The monitoring phase is critical as well—ensuring that 100% of the income generated from carbon reduction is reinvested into maintenance, on-going monitoring activities, and the inclusion of new families into the project. This model not only ensures sustainability but also builds long-term resilience against climate variability, ensuring every intervention has the greatest impact.
Embracing the Challenge of Climate Change
Communities across Latin America are increasingly aware of global warming and the need for effective climate action. Faced with unpredictable seasonal patterns and extreme climates intensified by environmental changes, these vulnerable areas are now proactively seeking innovative solutions. Microsol’s clean energy projects not only mitigate environmental impacts but they also help community members face everyday challenges with improved, sustainable practices. With a blend of tradition and innovation, the projects allow families to maintain their heritage while embracing modern energy solutions that significantly reduce overall environmental footprints.
