What the Project Is

ALL OUR TEES ARE ORGANIC & FAIRLY TRADED. Organic cotton removes the use of toxic pesticides, reduces water demand, and is better for soils – this naturally benefits people by paying them fairly for the cotton they produce. 100% of the profits go to support EJF’s global campaigns and projects, protecting people and planet. Environmental Justice Foundation CT (EJFct) is registered in England and Wales no. 1088128. JUST-FOR is a wholly-owned project of EJFct. This project represents commitment to environmental and social justice through sustainable materials and fair practices… a gentle push towards a better future.

Main Benefit

  • Organic cotton helps eliminate toxic pesticides and minimizes water usage.
  • Fair trading practices ensure that cotton producers receive fair remuneration.
  • 100% of profits are reinvested in global campaigns protecting people and the environment.
  • Backing EJF projects solidifies efforts in tackling environmental degradation and advancing human rights.
  • Effective use of innovative approaches increases impact by addressing the inter-linked challenges of environmental security.

Commitment to Environmental Justice

EJF BELIEVES ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT. Founded in 1999 by Steve Trent and Juliette Williams, the foundation emerged from a shared understanding that a healthy natural environment is essential for community survival. Their experiences illustrate that protecting wildlife and natural places goes hand in hand with working with local communities – those who depend on the land and water for their very survival. Their dynamic approach often leads to unexpected turns, and sometimes even pauses, as local voices step forward to claim their right to environmental security… a true partnership between nature and its stewards.

Innovative Solutions and Local Empowerment

Focused on innovation, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, EJF established new ways of addressing the inter-linked challenges to environmental security, social justice, and human rights. The project trains local people and communities who are directly affected by environmental issues – empowering them to investigate, expose, and combat environmental degradation along with the associated human rights abuses. This hands-on approach combines modern video technologies, extensive research, and advocacy skills to document both the problems and the emerging solutions. The result? A media platform that resonates with a global audience, opening up public and political platforms for constructive change.

Historical Impact and Noteworthy Achievements

Since its inception, EJF has been instrumental in making bold moves around the world. The project’s efforts have led, for example, to the arrest of pirate fishing vessels in West Africa, the compulsion of a brutal, corrupt regime to sign International Labour Organisation Conventions on child labour, and the placing of ‘climate refugees’ firmly on the international agenda. Their robust advocacy efforts even resulted in a landmark success when a case was won to outlaw the deadly pesticide endosulfan in 2011. These powerful actions highlight a pattern of vigilant oversight and creative problem solving, ensuring that both people and nature get the justice they deserve.

Vision for a Sustainable Future

OUR VISION: A world where natural habitats and environments can sustain – and be sustained by – the communities that depend upon them for basic needs and livelihoods. This vision motivates the project to continuously work at the crossroads of environmental protection and social equity. It is a vision that hints at a future where local wisdom and global collaboration merge seamlessly, offering hope for a healthier planet. The message resonates deeply with the need for environmental security to be viewed as a pressing human right rather than a mere luxury. It represents a celebration of life, nature, and fair practice.

The Project Impact

  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – promoting fair trade and ethical practices.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – ensuring sustainable resource usage.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action – addressing the fundamental issues of environmental degradation.
  • SDG 15: Life on Land – protecting natural habitats and biodiversity.

Future Directions and Ongoing Support

With a clear mission to protect people and the planet, EJF continues to expand its reach. The project is dedicated to creating and implementing solutions where they are most needed. By providing training in the latest video technologies, research methodologies, and advocacy strategies, it ensures that both local communities and broader audiences stay informed and engaged. The narrative of the project is one of resilience and transformation – a dynamic tale of local empowerment meeting global challenges. Small in stature but mighty in vision, this initiative inspires hope and change across boundaries. The continuous feedback from communities and partners fuels further steps, encouraging innovative practices in environmental justice. This is a story that unfolds with every new campaign and every life touched by its efforts… a journey toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
