What the Project Is

Daka Denmark is the Nordic part of the SARIA group, specializing in the collection, safe handling, and recycling of by-products from agriculture and the food industry. This project focuses on turning what many would consider waste into sustainable, high-quality products such as feed ingredients, fertilizers, and renewable energy products – including renewable biofuels and biodiesel. The emphasis is on giving nature’s resources back in a sustainable way, ensuring that every step in processing is safe and environmentally friendly… This approach not only forms the backbone of Daka Denmark’s operations but also exemplifies innovative methods to utilize residual resources efficiently.

Main Benefit

  • Specializes in sustainable production methods using by-products.
  • Employs five distinct business areas: Daka SecAnim, Daka SARVAL, Daka ReFood, Daka ecoMotion, and Konvex.
  • Transforms agricultural and food industry waste into quality feed ingredients, fertilizers, and biofuels.
  • Achieves significant CO2 emission reductions – a decrease of at least 85% compared to fossil diesel.
  • Ensures safety and environmental care in every processing stage.

Sustainable Animal By-Products Recycling

Daka SecAnim is a key player in safely handling and recycling animal by-products. It collects dead animals from Danish agriculture and processes them into valuable raw materials for biodiesel and meat meal production. This branch of the project is truly sustainable, with a robust focus on safety and environmental impact. It is fascinating how a resource that might otherwise be discarded is repurposed into something that fuels energy production and supports high-quality animal feed. The process is environmentally friendly and continuously adds new value to by-products – a great example of innovation meeting responsibility.

Efficient Food and Waste Management

Daka ReFood takes on the critical task of managing food waste, used frying oil, and cooking fat from the food production, restaurant, hotel, and retail industries. Every bit of waste is seen as an opportunity… a reservoir of untapped resources that, when properly handled, can fuel green energy, yield organic fertilizers, and even create biodiesel. Recycling these resources not only mitigates potential environmental hazards but also drives forward a sustainable cycle where waste contributes directly to renewable energy production and improved agricultural practices.

Protein Production and Eco-Friendly Biofuels

The project also extends its innovative vision to include Daka SARVAL and Daka ecoMotion. Daka SARVAL processes approved animal by-products from pigs, producing high-quality protein and fat products for the feed industry. The range of products spans from animal proteins to premium animal fats. Additionally, Daka ecoMotion utilizes by-products – including animal fat and used frying fat – to generate one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable biodiesels available. This dual approach underlines how the same raw materials can foster both advanced feed production and renewable energy solutions, effectively bridging the gap between agriculture and energy while ensuring environmental sustainability.

The Project Impact

  • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – through the production of sustainable biofuels.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – by recycling and repurposing waste into valuable resources.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action – with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuels.
  • SDG 15: Life on Land – through sustainable practices that enhance soil and ensure a healthier ecosystem.

Advanced Fertilizers and Market Innovation

Beyond animal by-products and food waste recycling, the project also extends into the production of advanced fertilizers with the Øgro series. These Danish fertilizer products and soil improvers are produced using meat and bone meal, approved under Annex 2. Such approval allows them to be used as non-organic fertilizers in organic farming, which may seem paradoxical but actually demonstrates flexibility and innovation. This facet of the project underscores a comprehensive approach to sustainability – where waste streams and by-products are continuously evaluated and transformed into products that fuel both agriculture and green energy sectors.
