What is the Project?

Prana is a family-owned company on a mission to make delicious food better for you and for the planet. The website is organized to easily navigate sections like “Skip to content” and “Shop All,” where visitors find everything from Breakfast options (such as Overnight Chia & Oats, Granolove, Nut butters, Chia Seeds, and Gluten-free Oats Flakes) to Snacks, Ingredients, Our Favourites, and even an extensive Recipes section. This project truly reflects passion for serving plant-based and responsibly sourced food. It tells a story that began in 2005 when two travelers, Alon Farber and Marie-Josée Richer, fell in love and returned to Quebec after meeting in India, where they started a vegan seasonal restaurant in Goa. It is where a humble start roasting nuts in Marie-Josée’s mom’s kitchen eventually birthed Canada’s #1 organic snack brand.

Main Benefit

The project is built on strong values. Here are some key figures and facts that stand out:

  • Fully committed to mainly organic, non-GMO, and plant-based ingredients – the real deal.
  • Diversity makes the team stronger, creating an inspiring and inclusive work environment.
  • Profit is seen as a means; a tool to get involved at the social level and reduce environmental impact.
  • Suppliers sign a strict code of conduct that reflects high ethical standards and fair treatment.
  • Partnerships with local producers, such as a Quebec grower developing organic and regenerative pumpkin seeds.
  • Efforts to optimize freshness through innovative approaches that also continuously lower environmental impact.
  • An ambitious goal to become a zero food-waste plant by 2023, with energy emissions offset and water and energy usage carefully monitored.
  • The “Better Food Model” measures the social and environmental impact, ensuring the offerings are good for both the individual and the planet.

Diverse Menu Offerings

The website divides its offerings into thoughtfully categorized sections. Under “Shop All,” customers can easily explore different product lines. For Breakfast, there are items like Overnight Chia & Oats, Granolove, and even Gluten-free Oats Flakes, ensuring that everyone’s morning routine gets a wholesome boost. The Snacks section includes options like Bean Me Up, Trail Mixes, Salty Snacks, Sweet Snacks, Allergen Free Granola Bar, Cookies, and Dried Fruits. In the Ingredients area, choices range from Nuts and Seeds to Nut Butters and Gluten-free Flours & Oats, alongside decadent Chocolate and Fairtrade Sugar. There is also a dedicated space for “Our favourites” featuring New arrivals, sale items, Best Sellers, Fairtrade products, and Goodies to Wear & Carry. And if looking for culinary inspiration, the Recipes section is segmented into Breakfast, Appetizers and Sides, Soups, Salads, Drinks, Main Courses, Desserts, and Snacks – keeping everything casual like a friendly neighborhood cook sharing ideas over a coffee…

Commitments and Sustainability

This project goes way beyond just providing healthy food options. It is powered by eight distinct promises that reflect an earnest commitment to sustainability. The project is centered on being fully organic, non-GMO, and plant-based. The diversity of the work environment is celebrated, and profit is viewed as a tool—part of a triple threat approach that fuels both social involvement and environmental care. As tough as it sounds, there is a strict code of conduct for suppliers to ensure ethical practices, and a notable effort is made to source Fair Trade ingredients whenever possible. This detailed attention extends to cutting-edge collaborations: teaming up with a local Quebec grower to spearhead a project on organic and regenerative pumpkin seeds, and working closely with experts since 2019 to continuously lower the environmental impact of product packaging, keeping products optimally fresh and greatly reducing food waste.

The Company Story

At the heart of the project lies an inspiring company story. Prana’s origins are humble—two travelers who met in India and rekindled love in Quebec, launching what would soon become an organic industry leader. Beginning with simple beginnings in a home kitchen, the company grew organically through word-of-mouth and farmer’s market support. Their journey is a testament to passion, patience, and a drive to make a positive impact on people’s lives while addressing social and environmental issues. It is a story narrated with warmth and authenticity, where every mindful choice fuels a more joyful life and a brighter future for all.

The Sustainability Promises

The project outlines eight sustainability promises that drive every decision, reflecting a genuine commitment to ethical sourcing and environmental stewardship. These promises include ensuring that products are the real deal by focusing on organic and non-GMO ingredients, embracing diversity in every facet, using profit as a vehicle for social and environmental change, treating people fairly with strict supplier codes of conduct, supporting a food revolution through local agricultural projects, innovating for optimal freshness with reduced food waste, maintaining sustainability within every operation at home, and measuring impact using the “Better Food Model.” These principles resonate with those who care deeply about the future of the planet.
