Small hydrokinetic turbines let people get clean, reliable energy from the water in rivers.
The hydrokinetic turbine from DesignPro Renewables uses the movement of water in rivers and estuaries to make power. The unique idea behind this device is to take advantage of what happens when a moving stream of water hits an object or blockage. By putting this kind of obstacle into our design, the water is slowed down and forced to move faster as it is redirected around the body. The small size makes it easy and cost-effective to set up, and a 25kW system can be set up in as little as 3 hours without any major civil work. The device is not permanently attached, so it can be easily moved if needed. The platform lets you get to the turbines, which can be lifted out of the water for maintenance without having to take the device out of the water.
Positive facts about DesignPro HydroKinetic Turbines
No head of water is needed to generate adequate power from the ambient flow, even in sites with 1.5 metres per second (mps) means that there is no need for expensive and disruptive civil works
A 25kW turbine can displace a 90kW diesel generator that requires 24/7 operation to provide power for 20-30 homes, the turbine would save 4,642 tonnes of CO2
Efficiently capture kinetic energy of water flows ( 2M/S), opening up viable deployment opportunities in a greater range of water flows
Levelised Cost of Energy of €0.27 per kW making it a sound investment for those currently reliant on diesel generators or those in areas with attractive Feed In Tariffs
Power over 60 normal households with combined battery storage with a single 60kw hybrid device or create an array to generate further power
