A way to remove printing from plastics that is based on water.
Plastics with printing can only be recycled to make low-quality items because the pigments give the plastics dirty colors and make it hard to work with them well. This means that most printed plastics end up in landfills or are burned. By taking out the pigments and printing, the materials keep their original flexibility and color, which is usually clear or white. These plastics can then be used as raw materials to make the same things. In this way, the plastic stops being trash and starts being useful. The DEINKING solution is simple: a water-based process to get rid of printed ink and other contaminants in plastics, such as paper stickers, glue, and dust, to get high-quality recycled plastics that are the same quality as new plastics, making these plastics circular in a way that can go through 5–10 more cycles. The process is unique in that it uses only water and no solvents. It also has a water-treatment system that allows the same water to be used for several months, making it a very green technology.
Positive facts about DEINKING
OPEX between 180 and 240 €/t
It reduces the CO2 emissions x 5
0% of solvent usage
100% use of a waste that did not have much value
A minimum of 5 cycles of life for the same deinked plastics
+/- 2 yers payback
Little cost per tonne of deinked recycled plastic to reuse compared with the alternative, which is to pay to be taken for incineration, etc
Cuts costs of solvents (0$)
