Connecting with Nature: The Habitat Penang Hill
In the heart of Penang Hill, a family found their passion for nature over 30 years ago. They saw the beauty of the rainforest and the wildlife that lived there. This love for nature inspired them to create a special place called The Habitat. Here, people can come to learn about the importance of nature and how to protect it. The Habitat is not just a park; it’s a journey into the wonders of the natural world.
Our Journey Begins
When our family moved to Penang Hill, we were amazed by the lush greenery and the diverse wildlife. We wanted to share this experience with others. So, we decided to build The Habitat. Our goal was to create a space where people could reconnect with nature. We believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the beauty of the rainforest. This is why we built a park that not only showcases nature but also educates visitors about its importance.
Commitment to Conservation
At The Habitat, we take our responsibility to the environment seriously. We have pledged to donate the proceeds from our park to The Habitat Foundation. This foundation supports various initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity. It also provides grants for research that helps us understand our environment better. By doing this, we hope to make a positive impact on the planet and ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty of nature.
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
In 2021, a significant milestone was achieved when over 15 thousand hectares of land in Penang was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This area is rich in biodiversity and is home to many unique species. The Habitat played a crucial role in this designation. We organized the Habitat BioBlitz in 2017, where we documented over 2,500 species. This event highlighted the importance of the rainforest and helped secure its recognition as a UNESCO site.
Becoming a B Corp
We are proud to announce that The Habitat Penang Hill is now a B Corp Certified company. This certification reflects our commitment to social and environmental responsibility. To become a B Corp, we underwent a rigorous assessment of our practices. This included evaluating our impact on the community, environment, and governance. Joining the B Corp community allows us to connect with other businesses that share our values and goals.
Engaging the Community
At The Habitat, we believe in the power of community. We offer various programs and events that engage visitors and locals alike. From educational workshops to guided nature walks, there is something for everyone. We want to inspire people to take action in their own lives to protect the environment.
