What the Project Is
Origen Air™ was founded in 2019 from a deeply personal commitment to improving indoor air quality and enhancing well-being. Born from the experience of a CEO whose father suffered from health struggles linked to poor air conditions, the project took shape with one mission: to tackle the negative effects of substandard indoor air. Through exclusive global distribution rights to genetically enhanced golden pothos plants, these super plants—developed at the University of Washington—are used in a revolutionary approach. Featuring a unique blend of aeroponic bio-filtration technology and a sustainable design, Origen Air™ cleans a 400 sqft room every hour by metabolizing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are harmful to health.
Main Benefit
The main benefit of Origen Air’s solution is its multi-layered approach to air purification, combining nature’s own abilities with advanced filtration technology. Not only does this system ensure cleaner air, it also creates healthier, more productive indoor spaces. Key figures and facts include:
- Founded in 2019 and transitioning from a pilot to commercialization with revenue generated since Q3-2022.
- Exclusive global rights to genetically enhanced golden pothos plants, developed over 15+ years.
- Established sales with industry leaders such as TELUS, Hudson Pacific Properties, and BentallGreenOak.
- An innovative combination of HEPA™ filters and Super Plants that remove 99.99% of dust, dirt, dander, and particulate matter (PM 2.5).
- Solution designed to clear harmful toxins—from car exhaust to chemicals released during cooking—thus protecting families from VOCs which shorten lives.
Our Founder and Vision
Susan Blanchet, the visionary founder and CEO of Origen Air™, is an accomplished leader in environmental sustainability and clean technology. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Environmental Studies, and History, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria, Susan transitioned from a 14-year career as an environmental lawyer to become a pioneering force in clean technology. Her personal connection to the adverse health effects of toxic air—sparked by her father’s dementia diagnosis—ignited her passion for developing innovative air purification solutions. Susan, recognized as a thought leader with accolades like the 2023 WE Empower United Nations SDG Challenge Award and the Stevie Awards 2023 Gold Winner for Thought Leader of the Year, continues to influence the global conversation on air quality. Her journey and commitment resonate, inspiring communities everywhere to breathe easier… quite literally.
Health Benefits and Functionality
The technology behind Origen Air™ is not only about cleaner air—it’s about improved health outcomes. The system provides a range of potential health benefits that directly impact the quality of life. Users may experience reduced allergy and asthma symptoms, improved sleep quality, decreased risk of respiratory problems and sickness, and an overall enhancement of well-being. The incorporation of HEPA™ filters, which remove nearly all particulate matter including dust, dander, and pollutants, works in harmony with Super Plants that actively metabolize volatile organic compounds. This dual-action method means that every time the device is in operation, it fights back against the toxins released from everyday activities such as tobacco smoke, car exhaust, and even emissions from new furniture or fresh paint.
Design, Materials, and Innovation
The design of Origen Air’s systems reflects an unwavering commitment to sustainability, innovation, and convenience. Constructed from 100% recycled plastic, glass, and bamboo, the air purifier not only contributes to cleaner air but also supports a cleaner environment. Its design includes a clean, filtered air vent, a glass plant enclosure highlighting the natural element of the golden pothos, and user-friendly features such as adjustable power, fan speed, and LED lighting options—with 7 LED colours and 3 light levels available for a dynamic experience. The built-in funnel for watering, paired with water and filter sensors, adds a practical twist to its maintenance. The removable plant vessel and easy-access filter demonstrate that a focus on both function and aesthetics can offer an innovation that feels right at home in any living space.
