CPH Village: Affordable and Eco-Friendly Student Housing in Copenhagen

What is CPH Village?

CPH Village is a unique housing project designed specifically for students who want to live more with less. Based in Copenhagen, this initiative is all about creating community-driven student housing across different neighborhoods in the city. It’s run by a small but passionate team of about 15 people who are dedicated to offering students not just a place to stay, but a conscious and meaningful living experience. The focus? Affordable living spaces that minimize the use of natural resources, making it a smart choice for eco-conscious students.

Main Benefits of Living at CPH Village

Here’s a quick snapshot of what CPH Village offers:

  • Villages and Capacity: Village Refshaleøen (164 students), Village Vesterbro (184 students), Village Amagerbro (88 students), Village Nørrebro (352 students), Village Østerbro (192 students)
  • Pricing: Rent including electricity, water, and heating is around 5,883 DKK per month
  • Subsidies: Students from Denmark and the EU can get housing benefits ranging from 700 to 800 DKK
  • Deposit and Prepaid Rent: Both are 3 times the monthly rent, meaning 17,649 DKK each
  • Shared Facilities: Bathrooms are shared with just one other person, and kitchens are private

How to Apply and What to Expect

Ready to jump in? Applying is straightforward—just hit the apply button on their site. Once you’re offered an apartment, you’ll get the exact price, which can vary slightly. When moving in, expect to pay a deposit and prepaid rent, each equal to three months’ rent. This prepaid rent covers your last three months, which also acts as your termination notice period. It’s a neat system that helps both sides stay clear on commitments.

Living in the Villages: What’s Included?

The apartments come unfurnished, but they’re equipped with essentials like electricity, water, and heating through water-based radiators. You’ll also find a small fridge and freezer, a sink, a ventilation system, and a portable induction cooking top. Bathrooms are shared, but only with one other person, keeping things comfortable. Plus, there are community spaces in every village—perfect for meeting fellow students, studying, or hosting events. And yes, laundromats and community kitchens are part of the package.

Support and Community Life

CPH Village isn’t just about housing; it’s about building a community. They have a Community Creator Fund to help villagers launch projects or events that make life better and more fun. Got an idea? They might just help you bring it to life. Need help with rent payments or have questions about subleasing? They’ve got answers. For example, subleasing is allowed for up to two years if you’re temporarily away due to illness or studying abroad. And emergencies? They’re clear about what counts—like water leaks or power outages—and what doesn’t, like a blown bulb or a dripping tap.
