The Story Behind Aduna
The Aduna story began in The Gambia, sparked by co-founder Andrew’s journey through burnout and mental strain. While working in a farming enterprise there, he discovered the incredible benefits of superfoods—not just for health, but as a source of empowerment for rural farmers. Meanwhile, Nick’s business trip to Senegal introduced him to the baobab fruit, one of Africa’s most nutritious treasures. Their shared passion for connecting personal health with planetary health gave birth to Aduna.
Meaning and Mission
Aduna means ‘life’ or ‘world’ in Wolof, the main language spoken in Senegal and The Gambia. This name perfectly captures the project’s ethos: everything is connected. A healthier you means a healthier world, and vice versa. The mission is clear—promote 360-degree wellness for people and planet alike, with sustainable and ethical sourcing at the heart of every decision.
Sustainable and Ethical Sourcing
At the core of Aduna’s operations is a deep commitment to sustainability. The project works hand-in-hand with local communities where these superfoods grow, empowering women and supporting regenerative farming practices. This means replanting crops in their natural ecosystems and nurturing them with the help of local farmers. It’s a cycle of care that benefits both the environment and the people who depend on it.
