es im-perfect®: Transforming Food Waste into Sustainable Delights

What is es im-perfect®?

es im-perfect® is a unique brand of conservas vegetales—vegetable preserves—that’s all about sustainability and social justice. Since 2019, this project has been transforming discarded fruits and veggies—those imperfect, surplus, or price-dropped items from the commercial circuit—into delicious vegetable pâtés, jams, and sauces. It’s not just about food; it’s about giving these natural, plant-based products a second chance through a circular economy model. Plus, es im-perfect® isn’t just a food brand; it’s a socio-labor insertion space, creating job opportunities for people at risk of social exclusion. Pretty inspiring, right?

Main Benefits of the Project

Here’s a quick snapshot of what es im-perfect® has achieved so far:

  • 0 tons of food transformed (and counting!)
  • 0 tons of CO2 emissions avoided
  • 0 million liters of water saved
  • 100% natural and plant-based products

These numbers tell a powerful story about the impact of turning food waste into valuable, sustainable products. It’s a win for the planet and for healthy, alimentación saludable.

A Project Rooted in Social Impact

es im-perfect® is more than just a brand; it’s a project born from the Espigoladors Foundation, a non-profit tackling three big social challenges: fighting food waste, ensuring everyone has access to healthy and sustainable food, and creating job opportunities for those facing social exclusion. The workshop, opened in 2018 in the Sant Cosme neighborhood of Prat de Llobregat, is strategically located near the Agricultural Park of Baix Llobregat—known as “the pantry of the metropolitan region of Barcelona.” This proximity helps reinforce the circular economy model by connecting local agricultural surplus with social innovation.

How es im-perfect® Reinvents Food Utilization

The magic lies in how es im-perfect® takes what others might see as waste and turns it into something valuable. By using imperfect fruits and vegetables that would otherwise be discarded, the project promotes aprovechamiento alimentario—food utilization at its best. This approach not only reduces waste but also supports a sustainable, vegan product line that’s 100% natural. It’s a fresh take on productos artesanales that respects the environment and the people involved in the process.

Creating Opportunities Through Labor Insertion

One of the most powerful aspects of es im-perfect® is its commitment to social inclusion. The workshop serves as a socio-labor insertion space, offering meaningful employment to people at risk of social exclusion. This isn’t just about jobs; it’s about empowerment, dignity, and building a community where everyone has a chance to thrive. It’s a shining example of how a empresa social can make a real difference.
