Nutreets: Sustainable Aquaponics Solutions for Quality Food Production

What the Project Is

Nutreets® develops a unique know‐how in plant and fish production inspired by aquaponics to best preserve the environment, taste, and quality of food. Born in 2016 by two childhood friends, Nutreets was created with the aim of initiating the ecological transition of production factors in market gardening and fish farming. Recognizing that both vegetable and fish production models are resource intensive and have significant impacts on the environment, Nutreets has set out to address these challenges by migrating production models to more sustainable systems. In a dynamic process of creative problem-solving… the project links production systems directly to local territories, reducing the need for long supply chains and preserving natural resources along the way.

Main Benefits

Nutreets offers an agricultural solution that not only improves food quality but also delivers exceptional benefits compared to conventional methods. The project is designed to help local territories transition towards sustainable production while maximizing taste and nutritional value. Key figures and facts include:

  • 90% of water saved.
  • 100% of antibiotics and phytosanitary products eliminated.
  • 100% of fertilizers and nutrients eliminated.

Innovative Agricultural Solutions

After 5 years of R&D, Nutreets has developed an agricultural solution intimately linked with its territory. This solution enables the relocation of production sites close to consumption basins, greatly reducing resource extraction while valorizing co‐products by eliminating fish farming waste, antibiotics, and other phytosanitary products. The innovation takes the best of soilless cultivation and the best of fish farming to offer tailor‐made solutions. Whether the need arises for farmers, fish farmers, enthusiasts, or amateur gardeners, Nutreets delivers a turnkey system designed to smoothly transition to responsible production models. The approach is hands-on and local… ensuring that production is not only efficient but also fully integrated into its environment.

Sustainable Production and Quality

Quality organic fruits, vegetables, and fish are at the heart of Nutreets’ offerings. The production systems allow for the cultivation of natural produce—free from fertilizers and pesticides—to ensure the highest standards of taste and quality. In an era where the balance between environment and economy is in constant debate, Nutreets stands out by emphasizing natural procedures and sustainable practices. The focus on eliminating unnecessary additives and chemicals results in a product line that remains true to its organic roots, while also appealing to consumers who demand both authenticity and environmental responsibility.

Local Impact and Efficient Operations

The project operates through a sophisticated yet locally oriented framework. Nutreets is not just about innovative cultivation—it is also a turnkey agricultural solution managed through three core areas: Engineering, Operation, and Distribution. The Engineering component includes an R&D structure and study office tasked with offering tailor‐made solutions adapted to client needs; Operations involve managing various production sites and ensuring their sustainable, long‐term function; while Distribution focuses on finding the best outlets for products, leveraging local origin and exceptional taste qualities to appeal to consumers. This integrated approach not only improves efficiency but also enhances the carbon footprint of production cycles by bringing production closer to consumption. It is like positive energy buildings, where every facet of the process contributes to reducing external dependencies.

The Project Impact on Sustainable Development

  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger – by ensuring access to quality organic produce.
  • SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – through a remarkable saving of 90% water usage.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – by eliminating 100% antibiotics, phytosanitary products, fertilizers, and nutrients.
  • SDG 13: Climate Action – by decentralizing production sites to curb resource extraction and reduce the overall carbon footprint.
  • SDG 15: Life on Land – by promoting agricultural practices that preserve natural ecosystems.

Ecological Transition in Practice

As the world faces the dual challenges of food security and environmental degradation, initiatives like Nutreets showcase how ecological transition can be pragmatically achieved. The project is designed to decrease the dependency on external resources such as water, arable land, and energy—especially in territories highly dependent on outside supply chains. By relocating production sites closer to consumption basins and integrating waste recovery processes, Nutreets contributes significantly to the sustainable development goals defined by the UN within the framework of the 2030 agenda. In a way, it brings agriculture and aquaculture together in a positive energy cycle, ensuring that waste is recovered and transformed locally to produce high-quality fruits, vegetables, and fish. The initiative seamlessly combines advanced R&D with practical field operations, making it a unique model for responsible food production in today’s rapidly changing world…
