About the Project
Ritma Green is a social enterprise that has been creating positive change since 2013 by offering access to small-scale renewable energy facilities, particularly for smallholder farmers. Working in close partnership with The Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme, Ritma Green has constructed around 300 domestic biogas digesters. The project really emphasizes a holistic approach by integrating sustainable natural resources and livelihoods, focusing on the renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, and water management nexus. It may sound technical, but there’s a friendly, down-to-earth vibe as smallholder farmers benefit from these modern solutions—think of it as a bridge between tradition and innovation. And, by the way, sustainable coffee production has also become a key part of their business. Through a social forestry scheme, the enterprise is actively promoting coffee climate change adaptation and mitigation practices, positioning environmentally and socially responsible coffee as part of its core mission.

Renewable Energy Initiatives
At the heart of this initiative is renewable energy. Ritma Green, by constructing an impressive number of domestic biogas digesters, has taken a practical stand in bringing energy solutions to smallholder farmers. This isn’t just about technology—it’s about creating self-sustaining communities where energy independence is within reach. With every digester installed, there’s a ripple effect that helps improve quality of life while cutting down greenhouse gas emissions. There’s a real sense of progress here, where modern renewable energy meets traditional farming practices… all in a way that speaks directly to everyday challenges.
Climate-Smart Agriculture Strategies
Climate change is a pressing challenge, and the agricultural sector is on the frontline. With climate-smart agriculture at its core, Ritma Green steps in with technologies and practices designed to help communities adapt to—and even mitigate—the impacts of a changing climate. By promoting practices that enhance resilience and reduce greenhouse gases, the project offers farmers practical tools to enhance production while ensuring environmental protection. These strategies are not only robust but are communicated in a way that resonates with people on a personal level, making it easier to adopt new methods for better yields and a healthier environment.
Business Development Innovations
Another notable aspect is Ritma Green’s role as a Business Development Service (BDS) provider. By engaging with Small Medium Enterprises, farmer groups, farmer cooperatives, and Village-Owned Enterprises, the project supports a more resilient, community-centered business model. The approach is very much hands-on, making sure that the benefits of renewable energy and climate-smart agriculture ripple outwards into local businesses. It’s a veritable win–win scenario: traditional practices meet modern business acumen, all underpinned by a spirit that’s both driven and empathetic. There’s even a cultural charm reflected in the core values, with phrases like RESO TEMMANGINGI (Full of Determination) and TARO ADA TARO GAU (Walk the Talk) that capture the essence of this commitment.
Sustainable Coffee Production and Social Forestry
Interestingly, sustainable coffee production has emerged as a mainstay in Ritma Green’s portfolio. By engaging smallholder farmers in eco-friendly farming techniques, the project has opened a new chapter in socially responsible coffee. The social forestry scheme integrated into its methodology not only helps mitigate climate change but also adapts agricultural practices for a warmer, more unpredictable environment. With initiatives that focus on both environmental and social responsibility, the coffee production model promotes sustainability on multiple fronts. It’s as if every cup of coffee becomes a statement of dedication to sustainability, bridging the gap between global challenges and local solutions.
