What the Project Is

SUNWIND Energy is a design office and manufacturer of innovative photovoltaic solar panels designed specifically for harsh mountain conditions. Founded in June 2014 after several years of research, technological monitoring, prototyping, and on-site testing, the company has developed design solutions that push the limits of energy storage, photovoltaic energy, and wind energy. This project focuses on semi-rigid photovoltaic solar panels that are tailored for ski resorts and ski lift manufacturers. The products not only bring advanced technology to the mountains but are also optimized to take advantage of snow albedo effects – yes, the natural reflectivity of snow is used to boost energy production… and even replace the window panes of ski lift stations.

Main Benefit

The project brings several key figures and facts that underline its impact and innovative approach:

  • Serre Chevalier (2018): TSD 6 – Vallons, Power Installed: 6.51 kWc, Average Production/Year: 9,973 kWh.
  • Vars la Forêt Blanche (2019): TC 10 – Chabrière, Power Installed: 7.64 kWc, Average Production/Year: 12,794 kWh.
  • Courchevel (2019): Cabin Diamand, Power Installed: 98 kWc.
  • Alpe d’Huez (2021): TSD 6 – Chalvet, Power Installed: 12 kWc, Average Production/Year: 14,512 kWh.
  • Super Dévoluy (2021): Covered carpet, Power Installed: 30 kWc, Average Production/Year: 33,940 kWh.

Innovative Photovoltaic Solutions

This project is built on the idea that innovation in renewable energy design can work hand in hand with the unique challenges of mountainous regions. The semi-rigid photovoltaic modules are not only engineered to withstand extreme conditions but also leverage the performance of albedo due to snow. Imagine a system where every ray of reflected sunlight is turned into additional energy – this is exactly what the sun-powered charging stations, eV+ solar modules, Delta® structures, and Vertisolar® vertical panels aim to achieve. The solutions are truly a blend of design and engineering excellence, crafted with a clear focus on eco-friendly and sustainable energy production.

Technical Excellence and Services

SUNWIND Energy provides a comprehensive suite of services that includes engineering, design, industrial synergies, and communication. The engineering aspect covers technical and production studies, 3D and industrial design, as well as component selection and energy storage solutions. Meanwhile, the design team focuses on custom product development, prototyping, and the transition to series production. By forging industrial partnerships aimed at creating sustainable energy solutions in mountainous areas, the project is supported by a robust marketing strategy that ensures effective communication and media outreach.

Tailored Solutions for Mountain Environments

Every solution offered is tailored to meet the unique technical and environmental constraints found in the mountains. The project’s competencies include custom solutions like power studies, thoughtful site selection, retrofits, and even the planning of new ski lifts. Quality is at the forefront, as all innovative solutions are specifically developed for the challenges of high-altitude conditions. The technical support provided extends to installation, long-term monitoring, and training – ensuring that every installation continues to deliver peak performance even in the most demanding environments.

Looking Ahead

The impact of the project goes beyond simply designing and manufacturing state-of-the-art photovoltaic solutions. SUNWIND Energy has established a network of strong references that include celebrated ski resorts such as Serre Chevalier, Vars la Forêt Blanche, Courchevel, Alpe d’Huez, and Super Dévoluy. With offices and manufacturing plants strategically located in the North Alps at Villard Bonnot and the South Alps in Le Monêtier les Bains, the project reinforces its dedication to renewable energy in challenging environments. Moreover, being part of the FORLAM group adds significant industrial heft to its pursuits. The innovative solutions, from electric mobility and charging stations to the pioneering eV+ SOLAR® and Delta® structure installations, are proof of how modern technology can be seamlessly integrated into the rugged beauty of mountainous landscapes. Ultimately, this endeavor not only enhances the operational capabilities of ski resorts and lift stations but also champions a sustainable future for energy production in harsh environments… inspiring both technological progress and environmental stewardship.
