What is the Watsan Project?
Empowering communities with clean water & sanitation solutions – that’s the essence of this project. It is all about transforming lives through affordable, eco-friendly water and sanitation solutions for all. By providing reliable, electricity‐free, and maintenance‐free products, the project is making a huge difference for BPL families and rural villages across the globe who do not have access to clean drinking water. Watsan makes and distributes affordable water purifiers made with natural Terafil technology, along with customizable add-ons for arsenic and fluoride removal. It is a life-changing initiative that brings a sense of hope, action… and real impact.
Main Benefit – Affordable & Eco-Friendly Solutions
The project offers pure solutions with zero compromise. By keeping things simple, it ensures no chemicals, no electricity, and zero water wastage. Some of the key figures and facts include:
- 15 L capacity Normal Terafil purifiers with arsenic and fluoride add-ons for household use.
- Community water purifiers in various capacities including 50 L, 200 L, 500 L, and even 2500 L for villages, schools, hospitals, and industries.
- Any Time Water (ATW) vending machines that offer 24/7 access to clean water.
- Watsan Water on Wheels (WOW) designed to ease water transportation for village women; a durable 65L capacity example.
- Zero chemicals, zero electricity usage, ensuring sustainable and eco-friendly performance.
Clean Water for Every Household & Community
The Watsan project is all about delivering effective water management solutions using Natural Terafil Water Purifiers. The household water purifiers come in a 15 L capacity model while community needs are met through larger units ranging from 50 L to 2500 L. It is really impressive how these systems work without electricity and eliminate water wastage. The idea is simple… keep it effective and affordable, understanding that quality water should be available to every household, school, hospital, and community center. Even during unpredictable times, these solutions stand strong, ensuring that water purification adheres to potable water standards.
Innovative Sanitation Solutions – Clean & Green
Sanitation is made simple with modular toilets designed as turnkey solutions. This approach addresses India’s sanitation crisis by manufacturing ready-to-fit toilets built completely using glass fibre waste, with no sand, water, or cement involved. These eco-friendly sanitation solutions not only instill social responsibility, but also generate self-employment opportunities. The emphasis on green sanitation practices helps achieve a sustainable future while keeping communities healthy and environmentally conscious.
Recognized for Excellence and Innovation
The innovation behind the solutions has earned recognition across various platforms – from the CIP Global Cleantech Innovation Awards to Industrial Innovation Awards, and certification by CIPET and the Government of India. The project was initiated by Chandrasekaran J., an expert in Plastics Technology who started addressing common public needs with innovative products back in 2009. The journey continued with the introduction of the ‘CPO Natural Terafil®™ Water filter’ under IMMT (CSIR) license in 2010, and later, the exclusive adaptation by Watsan Envirotech Private Limited in 2013 alongside P. N. Subramanian. It is a story of persistence, triumph, and community advancement… a dynamic blend of technology and compassion.
