A new, foldable container that makes it easier to move empty containers and makes logistics more environmentally friendly.
The goal of the solution is to fix the problem that the empty shipping containers cause because of trade imbalances around the world. While ports that focus on imports end up with a lot of empty containers, ports that focus on exports need them as shipping equipment and need to move them. Also, shipping containers spend half of their useful lives sitting empty in depots, which is a big problem for port areas that need a lot of space to store them. The current plans aren’t working, and repositioning empty containers costs 20 billion dollars per year and adds 200 million tons of CO2 to the atmosphere every year. Zbox is a new kind of folding container that changes the way empty containers are moved. It’s a patent for a container that can be folded up and has the same features as a regular container. But when it’s empty, we can fold it up and put it in 5 containers that take up the same amount of space as one. This makes it easier to move, store, and handle.
Positive facts about Zbox
5 folded Zbox containers can be bundled in the same space of 1, reducing by 80% the space occupied by 5 empty containers
The bundle containers can be handled, reducing by 80% the port handling operations
70% reduction of CO2 emissions related to empty container transport
20-30% reduction CO2 emissions related to complete roundtrip of freight transport
50% reduction of the operational cost of empty container transport (2500€/year/TEU)
20% economical savings over the operational cost of the total transport in a roundtrip
