A new kind of wind turbine for the floating wind energy market.
Seawind has made an offshore wind energy system that includes a wind turbine and a base, as well as a way to install the system at a low cost. Seawind doesn’t put these systems together at sea, where expensive crane ships or jackups are used to do it now. The Seawind systems are put together at a pier or a dry dock and then brought to the place where they will be put in place. When it comes to systems that float, installation just means anchoring. When installing a bottom-fixed system, you lower the whole thing to the seabed and turn on the suction buckets. Installation time is cut down by a lot, and whole systems can be kept in protected waters and put in place when the weather is calm. The time it takes to build a full offshore wind farm (500 MW or more) is cut down to less than a year. The foundations are made of UHPC, and the wind farm will last more than 50 years. Because of this, the system can run for a long time with low costs, just like big hydropower plants.
