A simple, eco-friendly way to recover water and energy from dirty snow in ice arenas.
At the moment, ice rinks use fossil fuels to heat their resurfacing systems. This system wastes thousands of liters of fresh, drinkable water and releases a lot of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide when it dumps contaminated snow. It also pollutes landfills and the soil and water tables in the area. All of this happens every day, seven days a week, in thousands of ice arenas all over the world. To solve this problem, OWERS has come up with a green, eco-friendly solution that will collect the ice and snow from an ice resurfacing machine, melt it into a liquid state, and heat the water without using any fossil fuels. OWERS’ solution cleans, filters, and de-bubbles the water so that it can be used again on the same ice surface, making a stronger, harder sheet of ice at a lower cost. With this solution, a lot less greenhouse gas (GHG) is put into the air, and energy, capital costs, labor, and maintenance costs are saved.
