Peak power provision is becoming increasingly important as civilization electrifies. The grid is not always capable of meeting peak electricity demand. Diesel generators are frequently employed to generate this peak power. In this working range, they have a low efficiency (5%), require fossil fuels, and pollute with CO2, NOx, SOx, noise, and particulates.
